Although this is the expertise area I am least excited about, I recognize its importance as an aspiring freelance designer who has been actively building a business for the past year. In my B3.1, I had the opportunity to observe how a one-person design studio operates, manages their clients, logistics, and stakeholders. Within the Design Innovation Methods course, I learned how to understand and analyze the tools I would need to set up a business related to design.
By the nature of my FBP being a critical design focusing on creating discursive value rather than direct revenue, B&E wasn't a direct priority compared to the other areas. However, I placed emphasis on the presentation at the demo day to showcase the findings and communicate the concepts tackled in the project in an easily approachable and interesting manner. I also applied to DDW with the project for an opportunity to have more eyes on a project that I am proud of and to meet other designers and professionals with a similar view on design.
Moving forward, I plan to expand my freelance graphic design practice while dedicating significant time to further developing and iterating on Tabula. The insights and methodologies developed through this project have opened up exciting possibilities for exploring human-object relationships, and I aim to create additional projects that challenge our understanding of how we interact with everyday objects. By continuing to work at the intersection of critical design and tangible interactions, I hope to build a body of work that questions and reimagines our relationship with the objects that surround us, potentially leading to exhibitions, publications, or collaborative opportunities with like-minded designers and institutions.
