Technology & Realization

Technology and Realization was the expertise area I was most excited to develop. Closely connected with Creativity & Aesthetics, proficiency in different software and mediums lets me express my creativity and ideas more articulately—it's almost like a language. As a strong digital designer, I've seized every opportunity to develop my physical craftsmanship. While early projects like Ecodesk and Creative Electronics introduced me to building and electronics, Excalibur truly helped me get comfortable in craftsmanship through its complex and ambitious build.

In my Final Bachelor Project, while deliberately avoiding complex technology and electronics, I built multiple quick experience prototypes using different materials and interaction methods, each iteration bringing new insights and refinements that ultimately led me to the table's final form. The final prototype involves a wooden frame that was built to hold 20 kg of sand, as well as a camera rig that had to be built for precise measurements.

Though digital design remains a medium I feel confident in, I'm particularly excited to challenge my physical craftsmanship in my future design career. Throughout my studies, I loved thinking and building with my hands rather than on screen, the medium I'm most comfortable in. Looking back, I realize I avoided working with electronics in my projects because it never really resonated with me. Moving forward, I aim to push myself to move away from the screen more often and challenge myself with new skills such as electronics and programming, as these would add many possibilities to my design language.
